The Korean violinist Bomsori is one of the outstanding artists of her generation: prizes at the International Tchaikovsky Competition, the Queen Elisabeth Competition, the ARD Music Competition and the Joseph Joachim Violin Competition marked the early stages of her career. This has long since developed into a mature artistic voice – a musician who knows exactly what she wants to express.
Together with the Stuttgarter Kammerorchester, she demonstrates the many facets the violin can possess: virtuoso brilliance in Henryk Wieniawski’s Faust Fantasy and concentrated expressiveness in Eugène Ysaÿe’s Violin Sonata No. 2, in which numerous Bach quotations appear. Bomsori’s outstanding technique is a means, not an end. Modest Mussorgsky broadens the sonic horizon with ‘Pictures at an Exhibition’: originally written for piano, they take on new colours in the version for string orchestra – like a gallery that suddenly unfolds in the room.
