Shaping improvised music like a composition – and bringing a composed work to life with spontaneity: this is the mission that brings the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra and Johanna Summer together in this programme. The multi-award-winning pianist has been performing on international stages for years as an improviser, moving effortlessly between the worlds of classical music and jazz. Her artistic approach of combining improvisation with classical works is being presented in a symphonic context for the first time. In this exciting collaboration, the SKO and Johanna Summer will perform Beethoven's First Piano Concerto in a historical string arrangement. In the process, they will find ways to create space for improvisation and spontaneous interaction between the musicians in order to view Beethoven's masterpiece from new perspectives.
