In homage to Philip Glass, who will celebrate his 90th birthday in 2027, accordion star Martynas Levickis has put together a very personal programme. A wide network of references runs through the music: in a newly composed suite, he incorporates folk songs from his Lithuanian homeland. Philip Glass repeatedly incorporates elements of folk music from Austria, the cradle of the accordion, into his ‘Tyrol Concerto’. The spiritual echoes in Glass' work find their counterpart in Marian songs by Tavener and Piazzolla.

Following the great success of the programme ‘Tango Passion’, with which Levickis and the SKO thrilled audiences at major venues and festivals, “Roots” is a new, tailor-made project for this inspiring collaboration. What does this new programme sound like? ‘Grounding, soulful, breathtaking!’ says Levickis.
